Being able to self-publish is an act of freedom, especially for those of us struggling to get the attention of people who want to make a change. According to Jack M. Balkin, professor of law at Yale University, “the development of the blog lowers the cost of publishing almost to the vanishing point,” but more than that it allows people like me to put articles, essays, and stories online. The minimal cost enables all of us to reach out and educate.
Eric Muller, professor of law at UNC, writes, “what blogging offers is immediacy.” In our world where it takes months or even years to have an article, essay, or book published, having your say on a blog can bring about quick change. Writing makes a difference. And blogging and the immediate publication of writing connects to the world like no other medium. This blog will provide commentary on events that impact our health and our attitude. I will post essays, articles, and news pertaining to the growing abuse in the animal food industry, which is global and local. Making these abuses public will hopefully bring the worldwide community together with a common goal to change an industry that has turned dangerously callous.
One person’s experience can actually be beneficial to others. Writing about experience exposes not only the writer, but the reader to something new—connections are made and one can learn from the other. While I write about the abuses in the animal food industry I will show how that abuse effects our health. Making choices to buy clean, humanely treated meat may be controversial to vegetarians. But, people who eat meat can choose a higher ground and refuse to buy food from slaughterhouses, grocery stores, and delis where abusive practices hinder our health and well-being.
